No, we’re not talking about that windows support, this has to do with the support around the basement windows in your home.
Unlike Microsoft, the window pictured on the left offers little support to the first or second floors above it. With no foundation wall remaining where the basement window was installed, alternate support framing is required. The picture on the right is another framing method that is almost correct, except they forgot the metal joist hangers for the floor joists and doubled-up header running parallel to the window. Unfortunately, the answer is not to unplug & reboot…or buy an Apple, but rather to hire a qualified building contractor to remedy the problem.
